The Texas/Mexico Border Patrol found her caught between two fences. She was dirty, matted, very thin, infested with ticks and dehydrated. She had barely enough energy to lift her head and lick the hand reaching out to her. It was amazing that she was still alive.  They named her Sandy. The Border Patrol took her to the facility where they house non-working patrol dogs in east El Paso. The facility's owner, Freddie, saw a beautiful Golden Retriever under all the filth, so he immediately called El Paso Golden Retriever Rescue (GRREP).  They took Sandy to their vet, who shaved her, cleaned her up, and had to tick dip her twice to kill all the ticks. She tested positive for tick fever, so she was started on a 30-day regimen of doxycycline. She also tested positive for the dreaded heartworm disease.    AGR agreed to take Sandy. Two AGR members drove to El Paso and transported Sandy back to Phoenix along with 4 other GRREP rescues. Sandy was placed with a long-term foster family that understood heartworm treatment. Even though her heartworm treatment has now been successfully completed and the heartworms are killed, Sandy must still be kept quiet -- crated when not being taken outside on leash to do her business and not allowed to get excited -- for another three months. Her coat is slowly growing back. She is now a beautiful, happy, healthy Golden girl who is lighting up the life of her new adoptive family with her shining personality and lovely smile. She has a new name, Molly, to go along with her new life.
