Update on Danny Boy's adoption status: Danny Boy wants to be someone's Valentine. If you have a stone/gravel/rock-free yard - is it you?

Danny   is still available and we are still looking for a home with the perfect yard for him.  It is out there, somewhere. He did have a home lined up, but the people decided that they did not want to take the responsibility of keeping him safe. We understand, it's a serious responsibility indeed.

He has had two surgeries in less than 6 months to remove stones/rocks from his belly and intestines. We are looking for a back yard that has NO rocks or stones. None, period. You must have  pavers/concrete/artificial turf only.  Natural grass ALWAYS has rocks and stones working their way to the surface.  No, it is not nutritional. He's been tested.  No, we will not rely on training. Most trainers agree that a clean environment is the safest thing for him.  No, a few rocks won't work. Rocks are rocks. No, it's not boredom.

Danny's foster mom said "We  have natural grass and he always wears a muzzle or Outfox head mesh when he goes outside. My fervent wish is to find a back yard where he will be able to go out without those devices, and people who are willing to use them whenever he is outside elsewhere."

If you can meet these requirements and are looking for a sweet, dog and cat-friendly, 4-year-old purebred English Cream Golden and would like to talk, you can email info@arizonagoldenrescue.org.

Danny Boy is a handsome, neutered 4-year-old English Creme Golden.  He was returned to the breeder when the owner passed away a few month ago. We did not receive much information from the breeder at intake, so we only know what we have learned the past month in foster care..

Danny loves his food and was up to 112 pounds at one point, but is a svelte 87 now. It's a good weight for him - he is a big boy. He had surgery 4 months ago for eating rocks and he continues to seek out and swallow them when he can. Danny is loving, people and dog-friendly and is not destructive when left alone, but will counter-surf if given the opportunity. In addition to rocks, he enjoys empty dog food cans, plastic containers and carrots for treats. He loves to play but can also sit and chill out. He loves the couch and cuddling on the bed, but could learn to stay off if needed. He loves to ride in the car and going on walks. Danny Boy is very strong, but walks very well on a leash when using a Gentle Leader or similar head halter.

Danny was very matted when he came in but has since had a grooming and trim. When his coat comes in it will be medium length and not difficult to maintain.

There are many options with rock-eating dogs to try to train and modify their bad habits, but we feel the safest environment for him is a rock/gravel-free yard. It is also recommended by veterinarians and trainers to use a basket muzzle on him when he is loose in an area that has rocks - such as parks, woods, etc. However, he does not need that on a leashed walk.

If you are interested in meeting Danny Boy, you must fill out an application and have a home visit to begin the approval process..   WE DO NOT ADOPT OUTSIDE OF THE STATE OF ARIZONA.   If you are interested in Danny, please visit our webpage at http://arizonagoldenrescue.rescuegroups.org/info/adoption   and complete an Online Adoption Application to begin the process, or send an e-mail to info@arizonagoldenrescue.org if you have questions and wish to be contacted.

Prior to adoption, all AGR dogs are given a full vet exam, including valley fever and heartworm tests, brought up to date on all vaccinations, given a microchip, neutered or spayed, and treated for any medical problems.
