In early July, AGR was contacted by a local breeder of Goldendoodles . Her poodle had recently had a litter of 10 (after having a previous litter of 10 last year) . The breeder had been able to sell only three of the puppies and wanted to surrender the other seven to us figuring that we would have a better chance of finding new homes for these 9-week-old puppies. We were not able to place any right away, so the AGR Health Care Manager offered to foster the four boys and an AGR foster couple in Phoenix took the three girls. Each identified adoptive family made an appointment to visit the puppies with either foster, depending on whether they wanted a male or a female, respectively. So all had met their puppy before he or she was actually delivered. All the puppies are really nice, appear to be quite smart and are growing well. All needed a complete series of DHPP vaccines and deworming. All will need to be sterilized when they reach a year of age. They have all now been finalized with an addendum for the spay or neuter. 22-047 Aladdin was the last male chosen by a prospective adopter in Phoenix. Fortunately, she fell in love with him right away. However, the foster offered to keep the puppy at her house for an extra week because the adopter's resident dog, one-year-old Payton , had contracted kennel cough at the doggy day care he was attending a few days a week. The vet advised keeping the puppy away until three days had passed without Payton exhib iting any symptoms . Both the adopter and Payton were thrilled to finally have the puppy with them. The adopter had named him Charlie and that is what the foster called him during the week she fostered at her home. At the adopter ’s house, Payton kept try ing to initiate play and would bring a toy over to the puppy and drop it near him. It was the cutest thing! He taught Charlie how to use the dog gie door in about one minute. When asked how Charlie has fit into her life, the adopter replied: Charlie has been the best laid-back little man! He has been a best friend to my 1-year-old Golden Retriever. They play non-stop, chasing each other through the house, around the coffee table and out the door through the yard and back again. Charlie wants to do whatever his big brother does. He is a little uncoordinated – he gets excited to see me and he runs and takes off to jump on me when I get home and he jumps too early and misses me and hits the floor, but that doesn’t stop him, he still comes to give me kisses! He will play with his brother and while trying to change directions too fast he ends up doing a somersault! So I think he will be athletic one day! He loves to pounce on his brother, who usually lets him win when they play. He wakes me up every morning by jumping onto the bed and giving me kisses around 5:30 am! He is the best at cuddling and loves to be held like a little toddler and he just relaxes in your arms, but at 44 pounds he is getting a little heavy for that! He has been the perfect addition to our little family!
