Gus is a purebred 4-year-old male Golden Retriever who was surrendered with his buddy Bert, a 4-year-old male Goldendoodle, as their owner could no longer care for them due to a change in family circumstances. They are a bonded pair and we are looking to place them together.
Both dogs are friendly but have never lived with other dogs, cats, or kids. They are strong, not leash trained and will benefit from basic positive reinforcement obedience training.
Gus has some separation anxiety. (He is not on any medication.) If he is left alone, he will shred anything loose, such as pillows, towels, dish towels, shoes. He has never chewed or shredded furniture. He likes attention when he wants it, but he does not crave attention.
Bert has environmental allergies and is taking Apoquel for that. Bert loves lots of attention and wants to be near people. He is very friendly.
Arizona Golden Rescue is organized as an all-volunteer, non-profit, 501 (c) (3) corporation. We are a charitable organization whose mission is to rescue displaced Golden Retrievers and mostly-Golden mixes that have been abused, abandoned, neglected or unwanted and find new, loving, permanent homes for them. Rescued dogs are given a complete veterinary exam and their vaccines are updated; they are also micro-chipped, spayed or neutered, and tested for valley fever and heartworm. AGR provides emotional and medical rehabilitation and will pay for medications and for necessary surgeries. Through education at public appearances, AGR seeks to educate the public about the Golden Retriever breed and about responsible dog ownership, in order to help reduce the unwanted dog population.
