24-040 Zeus is a 7-year-old Goldendoodle that was surrendered with his
Goldendoodle companion, 6-year-old 24-041 Athena. The owner was moving to a smaller home that did not allow dogs. Both dogs were already
sterilized, thankfully. The owner said Zeus is playful, friendly and a people pleaser. He loves to run in the yard and go for walks. Athena is more on the reserved side and the princess of the house. She can be playful and loves to cuddle. She is very bonded to her brother from the same parents 1 year apart. Our AGR transporter noticed right away that Zeus had cherry eye; the owner said his eyes had always been like that and didn’t seem to bother him. We also found out in short order that Zeus may have a sensitivity to chicken-based food. The owner had sent such food with him but said she’d always mixed it with lamb and rice. The plain chicken gave Zeus explosive diarrhea at the fosters’ home, so no more chicken! Both dogs received our standard vet exam and vaccinations, and Zeus was referred to Eye Care for Animals where cherry eye was confirmed. Cherry eye occurs if there is a weak attachment between the tear gland and the third eyelid, which can cause the eyelid to dislodge and form a small, pinkish-red bulge on the inner corner of one or both eyes. If untreated, cherry eye can lead to complications like dry eye syndrome. The usual treatment is surgery to remove the third eyelid. Zeus had surgery on both eyes; he will need lubricating eye drops for the rest of his life. As soon as Zeus had his eyes fixed, his potential adopter in Phoenix was anxious to finalize the adoption of both dogs. The adopter commented: 

Thank you for checking in with me. Both Zeus and Athena are very sweet. They are getting along with my 14-year-old standard poodle, Pi. I'm working at leash-training with them one at a time, so I can manage both of them better. I love them very much!
