24-082 Deegan, at intake, was an 11-week-old purebred Golden Retriever who was feisty and full of spunk. His surrendering owners didn’t have the time that a puppy required and felt Deegan would have a happier life in a home where he could receive all the attention. A foster was ready for a new adventure; she found it with Deegan. It only took a beat for the foster to have her heart stolen. As she states, He had me at Hello! He is a bundle of energy and is as powerful as a full-grown dog. The foster became the adopter and describes him as very smart, lovable, and energetic. He absolutely LOVES car rides, food and, of course, treats. Unfortunately, his dietary habits are not limited to food. There is the time he ingested the squeaker from a toy he was chewing non-stop plus some other non-edible items!

This tale is one you don’t want to miss. Let’s set the scene: it is Deegan’s 1st Christmas with the adopter. Excitement filled the air as the Christmas tree was decorated, Santa would be arriving soon, and gifts were under the tree waiting to be opened. Deegan just couldn’t wait! His enthusiasm got the better of him as he dragged the gift bags out from under the Christmas tree. As the adopter sweetly puts it: He is a single child but has a huge extended family of four-legged friends. The adopter's children have three Golden Retrievers and a German Shepherd who visit often. A friend’s 16-year-old Chihuahua, Halo, stays for extended periods of time. The adopter would like to let you in on this secret. The funny part is that Deegan absolutely loves Halo, but is unaware that Halo does NOT like him at all! Even with his energetic personality, Deegan is very gentle with the toddler grandchildren. What follows is a heartwarming moment! Deegan was fostered with Louie; they continue to have playdates and sleepovers where they play tirelessly all day.
