25-009 Jake was a 4-month-old male Golden Retriever puppy at intake. That says it all, doesn’t it? I know what scenarios play out in my mind when I hear "Golden Retriever puppy!" His original owner needed a service dog, so he got Jake. Then he discovered he could receive a service dog that was fully trained, so he surrendered Jake to AGR. As you can only imagine there was a tremendous amount of interest in Jake. But the perfect home is with an adoptive family. An energetic, loving and smart boy, he has become the love of their lives. I bet you are interested in why they chose Snitch for his name– it is a delightful story.

My fiancé and I first connected over our love of Harry Potter, so when we met our sweet boy, originally named Jakewe knew right away he needed a magical name. After our meet and greet, we couldn’t stop laughing about how tiny, yet lightning-fast he was, zooming around the yard like a blur. It didn’t take long to name him Snitch just like the Golden Snitch from Harry Potter! In the wizarding world, the Golden Snitch is quick, precious, and a symbol of destiny and choice, just like our boy.

He officially joined the family on February 28th, which also happens to be the anniversary of their very first date. Speaking from their hearts: It felt meant to be! When Snitch came home, he was underweight and had a severe skin condition. Thanks to AGR and their amazing vet, he’s now a healthy, happy, 42-pound bundle of energy who nearly reaches his dog-mom’s height when he stands up! One of their proudest moments was watching him graduate from his Beginner Training Class! He even had a little ceremony with a cap and a walk to Pomp & Circumstance! Now, he’s in Intermediate class and doing exceptionally well. The adopters trained him with an emergency recall. As shared by the adopter: His cue word, which must always stay unique and special, is "butterbeer", another Harry Potter nod; his reward is his favorite treat, a banana. With Harry Potter smiles on their faces, they enchantingly want you to know: Snitch truly lives up to his name: quick, clever, and the sweetest prize we could have ever hoped for our family. I think Snitch might say in the word uttered by Severus Snape of his enduring love for Lily Potter, “Always” to his new family!
