25-013 Sake is a handsome, well-mannered 3-year-old male Goldendoodle who is described as a sweet, playful and affectionate dog with the most expressive eyes. It was a very emotional surrender for the owner. His new job with long hours, along with his move to an apartment, would not allow him the time to walk and play with Sake. He felt Sake needed a home with a yard and more attention than he would be able to provide. Sake was fostered by an AGR volunteer couple, who noted that Sake was great with other dogs, initiated play and had a gentle spirit. Upon arriving at his forever home with an adopter, she exclaimed: I am sooooooo excited! Sake seemed to remember her from their Meet-and-Greet, as he went straight to her! Curiosity got the better of him! He began exploring, sniffing and making himself right at home. The transport team, along with the adopter, wanted to determine if the wooden furniture crate would be the right size for Sake. Here was the plan! They threw a treat into the crate as motivation for Sake to enter. Well, Sake was having none of that. He knew what they were trying to do and just wanted to continue enjoying his new yard. But here is how intelligent he is! As soon as everyone went into the house, they watched him enter the crate to retrieve the treat! Talk about a dog who will not be easily tricked! The adopter remarked with a smile on her face: 

Sake is a bed hog and I am a cliff hanger! [You can hear Janice’s joy and love for Sake in this next sentiment.] Sake is the perfect dog for me. He is SO affectionate and is my shadow. His favorite thing in the morning, when he sees me waking up, is to jump into bed and put his head on my chest and gaze at me with those wonderful brown Golden Retriever eyes followed by lots of licks in the face. There’s nothing quite like dog breath in the morning! I need a coffee mug with that on it! 

An active 77-year-old, the adopter realized with the energy of 3-year-old Sake, she wanted a training session with a behaviorist to refresh the basic commands. The trainer gave Sake the highest marks in intelligence and following directions. The adopter is improving quite nicely handling the commands. The feral cats in the neighborhood know there is a new sheriff in town, so they are staying clear of the adopter's yard. Plus, Sake has proven to be her knight in shining armor as he valiantly protects her from the wall lizards. What a GUY! There could not have been a better match than Sake and the adopter!
