About Copper/Riley

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Rescue ID: 09-033

Copper is a big, red golden retriever who is almost two years old.  He was given to a family by his original family in Chino Valley, AZ in June 2009. They were moving and could not take him back. AGR was glad to take him and bring him down from Prescott Valley.  His foster family said that he loves bathes, is very social with other dogs, and has minimal "manners".  He has been an outside dog all his life with 5 other dogs and is very active and could knock you down when he first greets someone, pulls on the leash, but responds well as long as you stay alert and keep him focused.  We were able to find Copper, now known as Riley, a forever home with a big family that plans to train him to be a hearing ear dog.  His family says, "It is like he has been here forever as he is getting along well with everyone and even gets along with the cats with no problem.  We have had a Golden Retriever in our home for the better part of 30 years and once you own one you need to have one around.  The new dog never replaces the one that you had before them, but they fill their own spot in your lives.  We lost our last Golden of 10 1/2 years suddenly and just found it difficult not to have her around.  You always expected her to be laying in those certain spots, and greeting you when you come home.  We also had our Golden trained to be a Hearing Dog for my Son who is hearing impaired.  She was not only his service animal but his best friend.  We found soon after she had past that we needed another Golden to fill the void.  We contacted Arizona Golden Rescue and they found "Riley" for us who has fit into the family like he has always been here.  He loves playing with two other rescues we have a at our home which are a Golden/Cocker mix and a Miniture Poodle.  He loves to go on walks and wants to be with you at all times.  He just loves everyone at our home and we could not have asked for a better fit.  Thank you Arizona Golden Rescue from all of us."
